Founded in 1997, the Giant Steps Illinois day school provides comprehensive education and therapy support to children whose needs cannot be met in traditional school settings. Giant Steps Illinois is approved by the Illinois State Board of Education to serve students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) ages 4-18. 

Devoted exclusively to children with autism spectrum disorders, and education for children with a better than one-to-one ratio of teacher to child. Each child goes through their day with the same primary teacher – providing continuity and a comfort level for the student. And, this primary teacher becomes a partner with the parent, providing ongoing communication, feedback from speech, music and behavioral therapy sessions and offering strategies and advice for continued progress.

Besides academics and therapies, Giant Steps places a strong emphasis on learning real-world life skills, from our bedroom classroom that teaches how to clean your room and make your bed, to our Business Partnership endeavors that allow our older students to learn practical skills like handling mailings and batch sorting.

Giant Steps follows a traditional school calendar and also offers an extended school year program.
